A brilliant book that read like a hybrid of a 18th century novel and a modern historical book.
Oscar Wilde is both arrogant and witty. It's why we love his works. An excellent little collection of quotes.
Trigger Warnings: Contains sexual violence towards children and physical abuse.
Murata's second book to be translated into English is a lot darker than The Convenience Store Woman. It follows the same social commentary of the societal expectations of women but this is further expanded in Earthlings. It was a wild ride of a read but at times it was hard to read due to some aspects of the plot.

“My father, James Witherspoon, is a bigamist.”
Silver Sparrow is a story of two half-sisters, both have very different lives, but their father is a bigamist. The novel starts with Dana, who is the secret daughter of James Witherspoon. She knows about her father's other family and is aware of her half-sister, Chaurisse. Her life choices are dictated by the life choices of Chaurisse.
Chaurisse and her mother are wholly unaware of James' secret double life. Chaurisse narrative follows what happens when the two sisters meet, become friends and the inevitable fall out that occurs.
Brilliant vivid story telling and wonderful charactisation. I was left with wanting the story to continue.

This was such an epic tale. It was about time to have a high fantasy that centred on strong female characters and included a diverse set of characters. I hope the author returns to this world.
I enjoyed the first half of the book. The latter half fell flat. Matt Haig has clearly had some personal mental health issues as it's reflected quite profoundly in the story. However, the last few chapters felt more like a generic self help advice book.
An intense story about a complicated mother-daughter relationship and memory.
This was a wild ride of a read. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by the ending so I couldn't give it 5 stars.
