Prettily written but very surface level Greek mythology retelling of the Odessa. I liked the curse myths.
Escándalo. An unhinged story about stolen manuscript from a superficial friendship where projections and jealousy tinged their relationship. This book had me wincing at every turn from all the micro aggressions. I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the train wreck that was unfolding, she kept digging herself deeper and deeper into a hole. The self righteousness of it all was sadly quite believable to the point where if this wasn’t fiction I’d believe if it was a true story.
The book was incredibly meta and relayed book culture perfectly. I liked the insider view at the book publishing world, the Goodreads reviews and author tea discussions were very relatable and shows the toxicity present in the book community and industry. I feel for all the authors still trying to make it facing all those pressures.
Somewhere between a scandal, satire and horror story, this book is controversial in all the best ways and sheds light on how people don’t take racism seriously in the ways that matter.
