Did not expect for me to like this so much lol, Cad is a delightful character and foil to Bea, I love!
It was fine but Laurent went a bit whacko in the end there, far be it from me to tell people they wrote their character wrong but I simply don't believe Laurent would be so capable of communication...kind of odd to me! Jokasta's twist was also hmm, and Kastor basically does nothing the whole book which like damn why not, I wanted to see him and Damen get into it for real. Idk, there's good stuff in this series but I feel like we could have mined it even more (and a few more female characters would have been great) but there's a lot of potential untapped.
Loved this, made me want to re-read the Great Gatsby again in a new light, which is the real litmus test for a retelling. Making the queer subtext into text is so excellent, as well as the perspective of a non-white character in the era is great.
Nghi Vo you understand me, I just know we would have bonded when reading the The Scarlet Letter in class. Call me if you wanna talk about the queer subtext of that book, let's collaborate on something special!

Best part of this book is the back of the book having a character page describing one character as a gay narcissist--2000s manga built different, possibly worse, but certainly different
"When you meet an evil noble, what do you do?"
"Fight!"
"Kill them!"
This kinda sucked tbh but that part made me laugh, LIKE SO REAL, KILL THEM GUYS!!!! Ngl my only real Sherlock exposure is like the first two episodes of the BBC show when I was 13 and a point and click game of the Hounds of Baskerville so thankfully I have no attachment to any of these characters and fr don't give a fuck what you do to them

Cool my library carries this since it's a local author but am rather baffled by fact there is more movie parody posters in the back than it felt like there was actual content in the book...
Getting uncharacteristically high marks for being the most 2003 tokyopop b-list shoujo manga ever. Like even when these series are bad I’m like oh yeah that’s the stuff, that’s the “my library has only two volumes of this series and I am 10 and have to ask my mom to buy the next ones” flavor I know and love
Not the book's fault but I grabbed it quickly to read on the bus and omg, not a bus read
I would have made the wrong choice and been devoured by magic 😻😻
