Brilliant Beacons
This book was a delight to read. It was a catholic mix of lighthouse folklore, shipping disasters, and American history.
My favorite chapter; “Marvels of Engineering and Construction”, ‘revealed just how difficult these structures were to conceive and then eventually construct.
My only complaint for this book, was there were no maps to corroborate every lighthouse discussed.
For me there will always be something bewitching about old lighthouses… And I give thanks to books like this that keep us informed on their heritage. May we continue to preserve them all.
