I just wasn't feeling this one right now and there are other things that I want to read instead. I haven't found myself wanting to pick this up and with the deeply mediocre reading year I've had, I don't have time for a book I feel meh about.
challenging dark emotional reflective sad fast-paced

Original review 10/25/22: This book is definitely worth all the hype it has gotten, in my opinion. Jennette has been through so much in her life and told her story in a way that really brings emotion out of the reader. I listened to this on audio, mostly while driving, and there were times when I would start yelling in my car because of how terrible the things her mom told her were. I felt angry and sad for her and I felt this urge to somehow reach her past self through the book to comfort her. Between having an abusive mother, dealing with creepy men while acting, and suffering from eating disorders and other mental health issues, she had to deal with so many things and was able to survive it all. I have so much love for her and wish her the best and I will be reading anything else she writes next!

Reread 10/30/24: I reread this in my senior seminar and it was just as incredible as the first time I read it. It was still so hard to read at times but it brought up a lot of insightful conversations in class. Jennette is so incredibly strong and such a skillful writer. I hope she continues to write in the future and I will definitely read anything else she comes out with.
