Unfortunately. I dnf'd this book at about 33%. There was just too many things that didn't work for me. Grace was frankly a mess, I'm still not sure what Eric did to earn her dislike to me it felt he didn't do anything. The book is reminiscent of the Hating Game or the Spanish Love Deception where a misunderstanding is blown out of proportion. Like just talk to one another. Also, they're competing for the same role so this is more rivals to lovers than enemies to lovers. I'm tired of this, you can't have proper enemies to lovers in a contemporary romance so why call it something it's not.

Thank you to Transworld for the eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

A Language of Dragons

I did not continue with this despite getting 45% in, at which point you'd think I'd finish it considering how far I'd come. I'm seeing the imagine to man digging for diamonds and turning away before the end but not here. I couldn't deal with Vivian I'm sorry but she isn't likeable and I totally understand that not every protagonist has to be likeable and the who complicated female charactes etc. But she's insufferable, she's arrogant and selfish and an idiot for someone supposedly so educated. I'm not rooting for her, I enjoyed when she wasn't on the page which I think says something when I like everyone but the main character and that fact that A Language of Dragons is in first person made the whole situation worse.

Thank you to Harper and Williamson for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Not motivated enough to wait for another 18 weeks to read, I'd rather put on hold a book I'm more excited about.

Unfortunately, I had to dnf this book.

From the beginning we are told that a high importance has been place on Japanese Honorifics and yet on the first page of the prologue we see “Mr Usagi-san”, there is also no consistency with the use of these honorifics where sometimes they are used to convey respect and on the next page that character is no longer referenced with the honorific. The whole thing therefore felt flat.

The book is also marketed as a fantasy novel however I think it’s better placed as a Young Adult book, the way that the characters speak to each other felt far too immature.

I did give the book a fair go but ultimately had to stop around chapter 3.

Thank you to NetGalley, Nib and Feather and Rachael Krotec for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
