It’s been such a long time since I’ve read a book like this in this specific genre. I feel like it really is given a bad rep because everyone always places it in the same category as Lee Child and James Patterson’s books. It really isn’t.

This was the best out of the trilogy by far. The plot does start a little slow, but it’s setting up everything for the entire book. We also find Reece making it to Africa and taking a break from the “fighting.” It seemed like the author well researched the geography and culture of the area that the main character was in. I’m not personally familiar with Africa and the poaching that happens, but it was so interesting and not what I expected the book to be about.

Once Reece gets pulled back into his job as a SEAL, except this time by the CIA, it really does feel like he has unfinished business. This time there seems to be even bigger danger and I loved it. It also sets up really well for the next series of books, which is what typically annoys me in this genre. The author always seems to pull new plots out of nowhere, but I can see the intricacies and planning that will lead to other battles that Reece will take.

This was a classic who-dun-it and it's always fun when the murder is about money and inheriting it. This was my first thriller by this author and it was decently good. It's super fast paced so I finished within a day. Extremely short chapters, so it really kept your attention.

2 to 3 characters in this book seem extremely guilty and there's a ton of evidence that makes you think they did it. Because of this, it was pretty easy to guess who actually did it, which always sucks for me. I tend to try and guess the ending, but its always better when it surprises me.

I think the book would have been improved if someone else had done it.
I was thinking Lisa specifically. It would have been huge twist and it would have made sense if they tweaked her character as she was suffering from the lack of money with Dan. Plus she was there when they treated the siblings awfully and it would have been the best surprise. The entire book rides on one of the children being the killer, so I wish it wasn't one of them so that I would have been shocked.
