It took me a few chapters to really get into this book as there were a lot of characters introduced at the beginning and I had difficulty relating to them as there were just too many. However, as the book progressed I found myself thinking of the members of the bookclub as if they were my friends and more than once caught myself thinking about their situations as if it was happening to someone I knew! I became so caught up in the lives of the women that I couldn't put this book down towards the end and was sorry to find I'd finished it. I would recommend this book to all women, particularly those with a love of friendship and books - though the books don't feature much in the telling of the story, other than to frame the stories of all the women involved. I loved this book and will certainly be seeking out more from this author.

Funny and fascinating - this book is the perfect look into life in Britain, with a few points that I would never have noticed by myself. Can't stop thinking about this book and will definitely be reading it again and more by Bill Bryson.

a brilliant and totally realistic book about becoming a teenager and starting high school

Strange story that seems to change style in the middle but still a good read. would be good as a film.
