This retelling of Frankenstein is set against the backdrop of the aftermath of the US invasion of Iraq, and how people were left to pick up the pieces. It is during this period that the Whatsitsname is built using body parts of those killed during the invasion, however, the Whatsitsname finds that his body parts need to be constantly replaced as they deteriorate.

This fun YA horror is a homage to 90's slasher with a modern twust, and doesn't disappoint. It was such an enjoyable rollercoaster from start to finish. Be ready for blood, gore and murder!

This dark contemporary novel delves into the societal expectations for women in Korea, following Yeong-hye as she takes control of her body by becoming a vegetarian, however her mental health spirals out of control. Told through other people's point of view, you see how Yeong-hye's choice effects those around her.

I picked this up not expecting much beyond a couple of school kids who have rival businesses and end up falling for each other, the unique part being that they are both females. However, there was so much more to this book, delving into subjects that I wouldn't have expected. It is well worth a read!

This instalment of the Wayward Childrens series is definitely one of the most enjoyable I've read. This series is spectacular at throwing you into a new world and fleshing it out in a low page count. In an Absent Dream follows Lundy as she discovers the goblin market, and learns what fair value really entails.

I decided to read this before watching the show, having already read and fallen absolutely in love with the Six of Crows duology, I had heard this trilogy can feel quite flat in comparison. However, I did quite enjoy this book, although I am aware that perhaps a lot of my enjoyment is more to do with Leigh Bardugo's writing style and world-building. The characters however, felt a little to be desired, with the main character falling heavily on the not like other girls trope which at this point it severely overdone (although it wasn't at the point of publication for this book). I look forward to seeing what happens with Alina in the rest of the series.

A story about a parachute (wealthy Asian teenagers dropped off in America for school) who experiences everything the USA has to offer, including racism, classism, cultural anxiety, sexual assault and rape, with elements of grooming by a teacher. There are many TW, but it's an important read, especially when you know the background of the author.

It's hard to pinpoint what I liked about this, but it was a clear 5 star. The main character really drew me in, and I could see myself in some of her decisions. I am extremely glad I'm no longer dating in my twenties.

What a fantastic end to this duology. It is a serious shame to leave the Six of Crows world/story. I am very much looking forward to checking out the Netflix show.

I was not expecting to love this as much as I did. All the characters were written in such a way that by the end I was truly sad to leave them (luckily this is the first in a duology). Six of Crows is my first foray into the Grishaverse, and I am very excited to continue!
