I think this is a fine quick read although it's quite bananas at times. MANY star moments, especially at the beginning.

I'm really glad I read this. I think it's dated in a lot of ways but still has core truths of the lesbian experience at the forefront.

Was supposed to read this for class but didn't. I liked the parts I did read but don't think I will go back to it that often/

As an installment in the Nancy Drew canon and the first of the Nancy Drew Diaries series, this is... weird. I really wanted to like this book because I love all things Nancy Drew, but I felt a disconnect between Nancy's life and the intended audience. In these books, Nancy and her friends are in college, though the books are written for a middle grade audience. I obviously cannot give a rating on what the book is not, but I think it would have been good for the publishers to consider how to actually make Nancy more accessible to new audiences AND how to diversify her story.

I really loved reading this after not reading Romeo and Juliet since high school. Some things about the text seem new to me now (particularly Juliet maybe using Romeo to escape her father and a marriage she doesn't want). Through this lens the story is more tragic and more heady than I ever gave it credit for. Often, I think when we read this class we dismiss Romeo and Juliet as stupid teenagers infatuated with each other, but there's much more to it than that.
