As an epidemiologist, I love reading books on statistics. Not necessarily because I am unfamiliar with the information, but because I enjoy reading new ways to explain concepts in health sciences and maths. This book does great at that, with an easily approachable method of writing and a huge number of concrete examples.

A collection of short fiction written as essays that interleaf the narrator’s life rents with her relationship to fine art. Excellent to read while looking at the artworks, and even learned a few myself.

Another classic for good reason, and quite different from the TV show! Way more speculative fiction than sci-fi.

An absolute classic that’ wonderfully evokes the excitement of the unknown.

As esoteric as “Illuminatus!”, though not as profane or difficult. Each section interprets the broader story under other aspects of quantum mechanics. Hilarious as the two authors can be.

Your enjoyment of half these short stories will be based in how much you like Gibson’s shtick. But the other half run from horror to extremely subversive depictions of Americana. All around great.

Absolutely worth reading to this day, and the losing-your-mind plot of the titular man is heartwrenching in retrospect.

A utopian classic that has aged moderately poorly in modern feminist interpretations, though foundational.

A collection of fake illnesses and reports on those illnesses by a myriad of different authors. Sometimes subversive, sometimes pretentious.

A psychological terror in every way, where nobody is on the good side and everything is as questionable as the opening paragraph.
