I wasn’t as happy as I thought I would be with the last novella, Beautiful Bitch. I was hoping for more out of it and although I still enjoyed it I can easily say it wasn’t my favorite. I find it hard to love shorter stories. I typically look for more than what can really summed up in such a small amount of pages (which is all my fault) so although I was eager to read Beautiful Bombshell I wasn’t expecting much besides a quick read to tide me over until the Beautiful Player release. Now I can happily tell you that I didn’t get disappointed this time. Christina and Lauren continue to bring on the sexy with Beautiful Bombshell and in just 160 pages they continued to remind me of why I like these characters so much. You get even more of Chloe and Bennett, the couple who started it all, and Max and Sara. Christina Lauren kept the steam (plenty of it) which I enjoyed of course ;) but I also really enjoyed getting to witness the dynamic between Bennett, Max, and Will. Reading about Bennett and Max trying to get to their ladies without the rest of the group knowing was priceless. Those girls have their men hooked. I can’t wait to read more about Will in Beautiful Player and hope to see more hilarious interactions between those three characters.

"It was super duper good! She was learning to become a ballerina and it was awesome."

Favorite quote: "poof!!!"

My thoughts: I saw the vampire ballerina and knew it was something my niece would like to read. We read it together for the first time and I'm happy with my decision to buy it for her. It emphasized the need to keep trying and practicing which is a great message for children. Vampirina Ballerina wasn't the best to start but she put in the work and came out on top. A prefect choice for my niece.

I have never read anything by Molly O’Keefe but I was perusing Netgalley one day and the cover caught my attention. After I read the description, I figured it would be something I would enjoy so I definitely wanted to try it out. I really thought it would be a cutesy dramatic read that I would enjoy. I wasn’t expecting anything serious or that it would bring out big emotions. I was right about it being an enjoyable read. I thought it was pretty great. I was wrong about the rest. It wasn’t just a cute, the characters are playing hard to get, romance book. There was more going on with the characters then I was expecting there to be and I really felt invested in what was going on with them.

Monica had an unconventional childhood. Growing up with an emotional distant mother after a traumatic experience, then having her life videotaped for the world to see created the Wild Child she wrote about in her book. Her years were filled doing reckless things with reckless people. Feeling used and never really loved, Monica built up walls. Getting away from her rebellious years, you can tell she isn’t that reckless girl everyone thinks her to be anymore but now she is so closed off from other people that it is what they will always see her to be. Going back home to write a story that will open so many more wounds isn’t making her feel better but when a mix up introduces her to Jackson things really begin to shake Monica up.

I loved Monica. She was flirty and fun with Jackson but also told him right where to shove when he was being an idiot. She’s already had such a crazy life and people already see her in a certain light so she tells it like it is. At first, no one seemed to want to get to know her. They make judgments based on her past. She is used to it but if she would only let some people in, they would see just how great she can be. Lonely but scared of being anything else Monica really has a big heart. She just needs some closure from her past.

At first, I didn’t know what to think about Jackson. I was like “what is your deal?” Things seemed off but as I read, I understood. He had a lot on his plate, some things he couldn’t change and other things he just felt responsible for and being the man he was he couldn’t run from just yet. That was his dream though. To fix things then run away. Monica had her wild time growing up and Jackson went straight into a life of responsibility. He puts so much into being proper. Once he gets the town on their feet again he is off to get crazy himself but Monica shows up and Jackson can’t put on his perfect show anymore. She gets him like no one else and maybe he doesn’t have to be so alone anymore either.

Two characters with so much pain and the burden of carrying too much on your own create such raw emotions when thrown together. They try to hold back but they are so full of passion (whether they are arguing or getting romantic) after feeling so alone. Their relationship went slow. Instant lust, yes! Instant love? Nope. They tiptoed around each other. They close themselves off, slowly let the other in, and closed off again. Reading about their relationship but then their relationship with others in their lives got to me. I felt sad for them and wanted to see them find themselves and push down their walls.

I found myself equally invested in the people of Bishop. I hoped for the best for them and would really like to see more of them. Gwen was a teen on the verge of losing more of herself, of potentially living a sad and lonely life just as Monica did. Shelby was an art teacher wanting more passion in life. She has a reputation she does not want tarnished but she wants to feel desired. Shawn was just fun. A slacker and a smart ass. Cora was a doll and if she was real I am sure her food would be as delicious as they say.

Oh, wow that ended up being much longer than I expected. Overall, I just really felt invested in the characters. I loved seeing their growth and setbacks. I thought the pace of the story was perfect. No crazy, that came completely out of nowhere, endings and it didn’t drag on. There was more to the story than two characters falling for each other. It was much more and involved so many people. I saw that this is the first in a series so I hope to read more about the people of Bishop. I was definitely a fan and I look forward to reading more of Molly’s work.

I always feel like it can be difficult to write a review but I’ve noticed that reviews for sequels tend to be easier yet harder to write than the first book. I feel like the review for the first book in a series is the most important, after all it is the foundation for the series. I usually have tons to say about a first book. It is the introduction to your main characters and what they face ahead. My reviews for sequels tend to be a bit (if not a lot) shorter since it is likely you’ve already read the first before reading a review for the second. I mostly wish to focus on how I feel the characters have grown or haven’t grown since the first book and how I feel the story is progressing.

Although, there were things I disliked about the characters in the first book I still loved reading about Noah and Rose’s relationship. I found myself rooting for them but sometimes rooting against them as well in the first book. I continue to have mixed feelings and I didn’t feel as strongly for them in this book. I found myself disliking these two characters actions. I felt Rose made a choice without really thinking she would spend the rest of her life in that situation. She was so stubborn just wanting to prove to people she could handle being Amish but it was an act. Of course I find it romantic to do whatever you have to to be with the one you love but playing Amish without actually embracing all it means to be Amish and being willing to really let your old life go is a terrible burden to put on yourself and unfair to those that are 100% committed to who they are. I loved the fire in Rose from book one but I felt like I slowly was watching it being squashed at times with her having to hide and bury it. I felt the characters were moving backwards instead of growing but I am sure I will see more of a change in them soon. Sam is still my favorite of course.

There is no doubt that Rose and Noah have strong feelings for each other but where they are now is not helping me want them to be together. It would be heart breaking to see them finally part for good but I think it will be just as heartbreaking in some way if they are together. It is going to have to be an amazing ending to feel good about the outcome of this relationship. I hope to see these characters be 100% open with what they want and what they are legitimately willing to give up to have it. No more I will give it up for now in the hopes of getting my way later and I want them to really think about the fact that this will be a decision they have to live with for the rest of their lives. I want to see the fire and determination back in Rose and I want to see a sweet and loving Noah. More Sam as well! Karen has me so nervous for the outcome of this forbidden relationship and I cannot wait to see how she brings it all to a close.

I have said it before an I will say it again, The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series is one of my favorites! I am so addicted to this series I think I could read the rest of what is out of the series from back to back if had the money to buy them all at once (and had the time). I just love the brothers. They are sexy and damaged but full of love for their special someone. Every brother has some big issue holding them back. A past you don’t totally know about until you get to their story. I love this because we are always learning something new about the brothers. There is mystery and suspense built up with each book. You get the focus on one brother and learn so much but then you get little bits of information about other brothers that have you yearning to know more, to get your hands on their story.

I felt like there were even more points of view in this story and although the fact that there were multiple points of view didn’t bother me the amount of time spent on those other points of view did. It wasn’t boring and every chapter held some importance but I wanted to get more time with Vishous and Jane. I felt like there was so much going on with other people that I didn’t get to see them together as much as I would have liked. I love the brothers but I love the women J.R writes for them as well. I love to see them break down each others walls and give their all to the other person. J.R always gives you so much passion and is not afraid to throw in the pain. The brothers never have it easy and their loves for each other is just as strong as their love for their women.

Besides the fact that I didn’t get enough of Jane and Vishous I still thought this was a great read. Although still present the lessening society wasn’t as big in this book. They are always a big issue in the books, I mean the brotherhoods whole purpose is to destroy them and protect their people but they got a little break from them in this book. They didn’t get a point of view and I enjoyed that. I much prefer the brothers side of things. Love Unbound was yet another addicting book in the series and I can’t wait to make some time for Lover Enshrined.

Sometimes I just miss pictures with my stories and when that happens I know it is time to pick up a graphic novel. I do not read many and it is just fairly recently that I start reading them but I have found I quite enjoy them most of the time. I love how quick it is to read a story and looking at the beautiful pictures are a definite plus. I occasionally like to peruse the comics&graphics section of Netgalley and this one sounded like a good match. I will admit it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting but I found it enjoyable.

The first few pages didn’t show up (and then other pages here and there) for me so I was a tad confused to start. I was busy trying to figure out where the pages were but I also knew I didn’t miss much (just the events leading to the wipe out). I also assumed it would be in color and was a tad bummed about that when starting but I quickly got over it. I prefer colors but it wasn’t the end of the world and I thought the drawing was good (there was a lot of detail to the surroundings).

Sometimes I would think okay this is bit ridiculous. I can’t believe it but then I was like no…I totally believe it. It actually felt very real and I found the dialog pretty hilarious at times. Were people complete appropriate all the time? Nope. Was it at times crass/vulgar? Yup, and that is exactly what I thought was great about it. Not everyone is going to talk this way or joke around with the people close to them like they did in the Cute Girl Network but for me I was like “sounds like someone I know”. The dialog had to be my favorite part about the story. It reminded me of one of those romantic comedies that you could actually convince a guy to go see.

The characters themselves on the other hand were alright for me. I liked Jane. She wasn’t the stereotype of a girl. She was a skateboarder, smart, funny, and give just as much as she took from the people in her life. She was all about doing what she wanted in the ending and kudos to her for that. I didn’t care for Jack on his own but I wasn’t against them being together. Was he a terrible person? No. Did I find him swoon worthy? haha no. Friends on the other hand, possibly.

Overall, The Cute Girl Network was quick and pretty hilarious.

Whether you care to admit it or not I am sure you have seen/read some piece of news about a celebrity getting a little (okay a lot) crazy. Maybe it was quick and unavoidable, a magazine you stared at too long in the check out isle or a channel you couldn’t change fast enough. Then again maybe you took the time to actually read/watch it. Either way we all know it isn’t difficult to find some piece of news about the latest celebrity gone wild. It is everywhere and the more famous and younger the celebrity the bigger the scandal. Gossip sites/magazines get the scoop. Whether it is all true or not. No one cares.) Scandals involving drugs, parties, alcohol, nudity, reckless behavior, etc and everyone else sucks it all up. You know what I am talking about, former sweethearts gone sour, and I more than a few people come to mind. The most recent-ish ones being Lyndsay Lohan, Amanda Bynes, and everyone’s new favorite person to criticize and talk about Miley Cyrus. You’ve heard the stories one or another and that is exactly how Cherie’s life is going in Spiral. Just wanted to paint a little picture before I continued on to tell you about this drama filled book.

Cherie is a young celebrity who loses the most important thing in a young girls life. Having to make new transitions is hard, especial ones you do not wish to make, but having it all documented is even hard. It doesn’t take long for Cherie to lose it. She won’t let herself grieve properly and in public she is a cold-hearted bitch to those who want to help her the most. With her entourage calling the shots Cherie’s partying slowly gets worse and worse but after the bars have closed and everyone has gone their separate ways it is Jack picking up the pieces.

This isn’t the first time Jack has had to be the glue for someone falling apart. Abandoned by his father at 13 he had to be the one to take care of his mother and 2 siblings until his mother found herself again. Now part of a new family Jack feels like an outsider. Then unexpectedly his family get a new addition and his feelings are all over the place. He is her rock, they hate each other, they are friends, they can’t stand each other, and then Cherie is sleeping in his bed? Talk about messing with a guys head.

Cherie was quite the unlikable character when she was being a diva. I couldn’t stand how she treated Jack. Always rude in public then seeking comfort when no one was around. You can see her vulnerability and sadness though and you can’t help but feel for her. She should never have treated Jack as a dirty secret but then I would get angry at Jack for letting her. He wasn’t completely innocent in all this but I probably would have hated him if her turned her a way. No way to win. Sorry Jack. Although often angry (with the situations life has thrown at him and his family who wouldn’t be?) he truly was a great guy and seeing how he cared for his youngest sister Brittany and Cherie you can’t help but fall for him.

Besides it being an addicting story that throws your emotions back and forth I was pleasantly surprised to find that Spiral was not in Cherie’s point of view. Everything was told from Jack’s perspective. I really thought it would go back and forth between the two but it was perfect just the way it was. You could really understand everything Cherie was going through without being in her head. You could still see it all through Jack’s eyes. I loved the gossip articles between the chapter detailing Cherie’s life as if she was in a real magazine. It was a great touch.

Jacqueline Levine gives you the story behind the gossip rag. She lets you see into the things you don’t know. It may have been hard sometimes to like Cherie and Jack but Jacqueline created a story that has you rooting for a happy ending. You know the tragedy is happening but you can’t stand to see Cherie or Jack go through anything more. I am sure Jacqueline has more curves to throw at as so this is definitely one series I will be looking forward to continuing.
