To my fellow Scots, I do not recommend the Audiobook, the attempt at the accents is, well, bad. It on the same level as the Spanish Alexander Bell that Disney World has. It sounds genetically foreign and generally distracting from the story. The voice actor does a good job besides that; (well, her English accent is also pretty basic) so maybe if you didn't know how an Edinburghian accent was meant to be, then maybe it wouldn't be so bad. For me, I might have liked this book better if I had read it physically.
I don't read a lot of Middle-grade, but I thought this was a decent book about ghosts.

This was disappointing. The plot is basically Kate is terrible but everyone has the hots for her.
What was the point of this book? It had no clear focus. This book is so scattered. There's like 5 major topics thrown around like nothing, with no real desire to deal with them. Then there's the ending, a major events is hinted but its still WHAT? Like 30 minutes from the end (though the audiobook is only 6 hours, so like half the avenge).
The main character is A-plus student that can't make clear pop-culture references. She also just terrible. She better than the villain mean girl who has no motivation besides being a sociopath, that's it. She constantly describes her best friend as a Christian Slut idiot. There is no telling and only showing in this book. We are told her family is terrible to her, but never happens during the plot of the novel. Sure, she only 15, but the writer isn't.
So much slut shaming with very shallow morals. If your girl who like sex, then you have be a idiot so constantly the message given so just doesn't help. But also making it out as being weird for a 15 year old girl to be virgin. Also she goes out with someone in College at one point, who hangs around a high school he didn't attend.
Basically, the title is cool, but there is seriously no plot with alarming messages and a lack of reality. It's just plot mess.

So this was the only audiobook in the horror section of my library and the description seemed like standard Haunted House so I figure it would be fun. Then I got bored listening to it, lack of tension, so I went on to Goodreads to see if anyone had just straight said what happens to see if it was worth listening to.
It's not really.
Reading the reviews, they were mostly negative. I thought I wonder why that would be. Yes, the mother and daughter relationship was lacking, Amity is not really a character, more a plot element, but I've see children...slash teenagers wrote worse. Novel within novel really doesn't work, the voice remains the same (I mean the prose voice) no matter what it's meant to be going. But the house seems cool.
So you too have made the mistake of starting to read/listen to this book, let me make down in spoilers what made me agree with the other reviews . So turns out there is a family serial killer who was brought back from the dead by evil Irish Witches. Not gonna lie, I'm not here for witches or magic being straight up evil, with is what is implied in this book. I'm fine with some witches being evil or there being dark spells. Or even spells going wrong. Even if that was how it was written, It's all a bit late to decide that Mercy is possession by a demon, who keeps casting spells for no reasons. None of her spells do anything, except maybe summon a stupid books that does nothing but annoy me right at the end. There is this stupid rhythm about a witch in the wood throughout the book, it's so dumb. It probably meant to bring it all together, but it was more I can't believe you're actually tieing to the actual events this novel. Maybe if it had actually been a ghost witch. That's fun.
I just don't works together in the way that it is done. The plot relays on everyone being complete idiots, only telling half stories.
The solution is very much, instead of anyone getting to the god damn point, let's fart about while people are attacked, only one line characters are actually killed. The Climax was so dumb, turns out ghosts trump demons but only for a second. Yeah, ghosts are real as well, but is stupid as there being an insane witch. I mean if she was this super strengthen demon, how would she have not escaped sooner. She not called a demon, but it's that sort of thing.
In the end, I really don't care about any of these characters or what the fate of any the Alban are. They randomly give away a baby for plot reasons. It's all so dumb, while specifically being dick to Irish witches.
