I've been doing this thing where I don't look up anything about a book before I read it (or rather, don't look it back up once I've added it to my TBR list), so I genuinely didn't know what to expect with this one.
I'm still not sure if I liked it or not, but I know I like the voice it was written in and the way the story was told. The Criminal Minds lover in me liked it, I can say that for sure. But the jury is still out on the rest of me. Just a bit too much gore..like the CM episodes I tend to skip if I've seen them once before.
I'm glad I read it, but I'm not sure it will be re-read.

This book hurt, and it should have. I don't have much to say, and I'm still processing the ache in my heart, but I appreciate the research that went into this novel, and I loved the unique way in which the intertwined stories were told.
While I admit I am a generous reviewer and have a hard time saying anything is less that at least 4 stars, if a book moves me, makes me cry, makes me question my life choices, and inspires a bout of existentialism, I think it deserves close to 5 stars.
Everyone makes choices, and everyone has their demons. This book was a wonderful read for me, especially during Mental Health Awareness Month. It tackles addiction, and personality disorders, love, and family. If you're in the mood for heavy, this is the book for you.

I'm not usually a courtroom drama gal, and that certainly wasn't the ending I expected - granted, nothing in this book was what I expected - but it was written well and taught a hard lesson. You can't control the actions of others, but you CAN control your own reaction.
Sometimes you need a book that reads quickly and reads easily, so you pick up this one. Then you find yourself laughing and crying and pleasantly surprised by time-stopping sentences and paragraphs and find yourself happier to have picked this book than you've been in a while.
I read it in two sittings, and now I feel stressed and like I should be crying. Amazing and eye opening, and beautiful written.
