So. Freaking. Cute. I can’t believe I gave a novella 5 stars, but here we are
I’m writing this review after my 2nd read of this book. My most recent read was of the re-released version.
I don’t think the book changed, but I found that I enjoyed this one more than I thought I had. I changed this from three stars to four. I will chalk it up to the fact that I’ve read way more novellas recently and this one is just far better than many.
This is a sweet, cute story of two ex-best friends, Dylan and Chris.
I loved Dylan immediately. It took me longer to come around to Chris. The book goes into their past, and while both made mistakes, their friendship essentially ending was put into motion by Chris’ actions. In the end, though Chris won me over.
I love the little world Anyta Sunday created here. The camp background worked perfectly for the story.
If you’re looking for a quick read that still delivers on all of the feels and with a nice dose of steam, look no further. This is your book.

Loved this so much! I probably would have given it 5 stars, but it was a little too much. Some peril? Sure. But I felt the story kept adding one problem after another for our trio. I just wanted to see a little more happy times. The ending was good, but for a book that had so much else drag on, it did seem rushed. Still, it is a near perfect read. Monty, Percy and Felicity are characters that I will actually remember, and that can often be hard to find. I also should mention that I HATE historical fiction, and yet I loved this particicular piece of historical fiction, so that also bodes very well for this book. I’m excited to read the rest of this series
If there is one thing I hate in the romance genre, it’s the double standard of acceptance that otherwise strong women seem to have for men sleeping around, yet female characters are supposed to be as close to pure as possible. Often, even if they aren’t virgins, they still maybe had sex once, and it, of course wasn’t any good. No one could possibly make them as happy in the bedroom as the H. And, frankly, this book would have been so fucking good without that same old shit in it. We have a male hero who sets his sights on Chloe, our heroine, and he’s pretty awesome, in most ways. However, he lost me when he said Chloe was everything a good woman should be. And what was one of those things? INNOCENT. Then, to make it worse, he finds out that one of the guys he works with dated Chloe in high school and that the guy had sex with Chloe. Of course, his toxic male ego gets bent out of shape. We are told that Landon (our male MC) was a guy who used to go out and have fun. He wasn’t saving himself for marriage. But he’s upset about Chloe. Even that I could overlook, if the author had maybe been like “Hey, you weren’t a virgin either. Big deal. Move on”. But, no. Chloe admits to Landon she only slept with the other guy once and it wasn’t good. That she regretted it. She should have waited. Because, OF COURSE LET’S MAKE THE WOMAN FEEL BAD ABOUT SEX. These books are mostly written by women. And read by women. And it’s fucking 2020 out there. Stop with the slut shaming. Please. It’s getting harder and harder to find books that I actually enjoy because this is such a huge part of the industry and it’s just shitty. We need to put a stop to the double standard. I’m fine with virgin heroines. I love virgin heroes, because they are like a unicorn in this genre. But enough with making it so toxic and writing it like a woman’s value is tied to how many people have seen her vagina. It’s just wrong. That said, I did give this one 3 stars because, other than this problem, the book is good.
While this isn’t my favorite Anyta Sunday novella, a novella (or any work, really) from Anyta, is still better than most everything else out there, imo.
This is sweet novella about Daniel, who gets his heartbroken. A fortune teller tells him that it’s the city they live in. It’s cursed. Love won’t survive there.
Daniel has been spending his time alone, but soon new neighbors move next door. They become friends. Before long, one of them, Toby finds himself in the same position as Daniel. Daniel and Toby begin to grow closer, due to their mutual broken hearted status.
The two of them decide to investigate to see why love can’t stay in this place they both call home.
We get a sweet, slow burn romance.
My only complaint is that I read a lot of Anyta Sunday’s work, and for me this one, even though it’s only a novella drug on a bit. It’s also a bit more forgettable than most of her other works. While it’s a decent read, it didn’t blow me away. I had to look up the characters names to do the review. Maybe it’s that I set up my expectations a little too high. It’s in no way something I wouldn’t read again, it’s just not an incredibly memorable story to me, and once I finished it, it was easy for me to forget it and move on.
