This book took me back to what it felt like as a kid to check out a fat stack of fantasy and sci-fi books and read all summer. Love the world, the plot, the characters. And I especially love that there are still two more books in the series for me to read!
Alaya Dawn Johnson’s and Eve Ewing’s stories were magic, but I also appreciated that the whole collection is wild, Afrofuturistic, and joyous.
The non-judging, non-pitying compassion present throughout this book is a really beautiful thing. Took me a long time to read because of the difficult subject matter, but I'm really glad I stuck it out.
Needed a breather before I could comment on this, but what a raging fire of a book. I can't imagine how difficult it must have been to write. Speaks so clearly to ways that we all need to be witnessed, believed, and supported in the face of horrible acts.
