I mean, it's Jemisin. She's basically redefining fantasy right now.
N.K. Jemisin's imagination is one hell of an impressive place. Such a page-turner, and the most woke fantasy I've ever read.
So I thought this book was a straight up post-apocalyptic thriller, and a few pages in I realized that it is actually a clever piece of social commentary about our routines and the materialistic and iconic things we cling to. There were some funny parts, but unfortunately, for me a lot of the book just didn't engage my interest that deeply.
Creepy not just for the supernatural element, but also for the perfect description of how an emotionally abusive relationship escalates.
Problematic author, good book. I usually catch plot twists ahead of time, but this one got me.
