Though the book appears to be a part of a series, it is a standalone piece. Each book in the series is written by a different author with the Witches Academy in the backdrop. I've read only this one.
The storyline is engaging, and so is the narration. The characters could have been a little more developed, but at least they weren't cardboard cuttings.
It was a fun and engaging read, and I'd definitely like to read more books with the same lead characters. They have the potential to carry a series on their shoulders.
The book has a few typos. Nothing another round of proofreading won't solve.
Overall, it's a lighthearted paranormal cozy mystery.

Phew! Some really uncomfortable things in there but was worth the rest.
What I loved most were Mr. Nakata and his words. He's a character I'll remember for a long time.

It's a pretty small book so I finished it in 2 hours. I'm stuck between liking and disliking it. There were some good scenes, light and humorous. But the ending was rushed. I would have liked it better if the feelings between the lead characters were spanned put well instead of changing instantly.

Interesting and fun.

It was an interesting prequel even if there wasn't much of a mystery to solve. There were a bit too many characters to remember all of them, but I think I got most them right.

A good story, gripping narration (with enough breathers), and a sort of happy ending.
Not too gory (depends on individual sensitivity level). Spooky but not nightmarish (not exactly).

Light-hearted and funny. There wasn't too much supernatural stuff so it was easy to follow. The story gathered pace in the second half.

This is a sweet and cute story about how the daughter of Santa turns a non-believer human into a believer.

A very enjoyable book with a super cool heroine. She's smart, sassy, and daring with loads of humor. Yet, she has doubts and insecurities. As much as we find it odd that she adapts so quickly in the new para world, we can see it's her love for solving a crime that makes it easy.
The story moves from urban to a fantasy setting with witches, warlocks, vampires, shapeshifters, werewolves, etc. Wikipedia becomes parapedia, smartphones are paraphones, etc. (you get the drift).
The book does justice as a cozy mystery with almost no gore. The writing is fun and light.

So I like this one better than the first book. That's probably because I like mermaids and this is her story. Annika is refreshing to read so yeah, it was fun.
