As I expected, I loved this book. The scope was so far beyond what I could have imagined, and though the tone was sadder than I anticipated coming from the first two, I found it very fitting. Liu has crafted a very plausible feeling explanation of what may be outside our Solar System, in the greater Universe we know so little about. The vastness of it all is incredible to comprehend. For me, the character of Cheng Xin was in many ways a highlight of the story, and I delighted in relating to her in her growth, struggles, triumphs and pain.

My eyes hurt from crying. This book was beautiful and captivating. Maroh distills an extraordinary amount of time and feeling into precious few images, each one breathtaking in its detail and simplicity. Her gorgeous drawings are the perfect vehicle for this heart-breaking-in-the-best-way story.

So love this series, this world, these characters. The pacing of this conclusion especially is on fire, I could not stop reading.

Still thinking about this one for sure. I liked the structure a lot, but I feel kinda uncertain about all the content. I'm looking forward to reading reviews and thoughts from people coming from more knowledgeable places than I am. More review likely to come later.

I initially struggled to become invested in the story. I didn't expect Jane to begin her story as a child, and despite loving her spunkiness I was little interested in this part of the story. I gave myself a place where I'd be allowed to DNF, and then, in spite of myself, I fell in love with this novel. I even now look back fondly on the portions which so vexed me on first reading with gratitude for how they established Jane's character. And what a completely captivating character she is, so much more memorable than I'd anticipated.⁣

I'm not fond of this novel's portrayal of madness, and I was often baffled and/or disquieted by the way the characters relate to one another. Some of the twists are questionable. Unsurprisingly, the changes in culture, and of course vernacular, from this novel's formation to the present are challenging, but it became obvious from the issues at hand why this novel became and remained a classic.⁣

What a story! More review thoughts to come.

I’m so grateful to have won a copy of Sabrina & Corina by Kali Fajardo-Anstine in a goodreads giveaway. This short story collection has been highly hyped by friends and so I was delighted to dive in, but even so this collection exceeded my expectations. Each story was compulsively readable, introducing the reader to a cast of Indigenous Latina women living in Denver, Colorado with ages from young girls through grandmothers. Again and again Fajardo-Anstine made me fall in love with her resilient characters and with this book’s deeply rooted sense of place. Gorgeous, profound and unforgettable.
