Blerg. The painful drama! Whyy? Love it but it tortures me.

I don't love every choice being made in this story, but the AI sentience fallout feels very real and I love that the authors delve into creating a large group of detailed characters, rather than just focusing on our two protagonists.

What. These cliffhangers are too much to handle. Really enjoying this story and the questions that it asks and develops.

Simple elegant illustrations accompany this story of a young man in an AI-driven world, who begins to care about the ethical questions surrounding AI sentience when his grandmother gifts him a lovely lady android for an unwanted birthday gift. I enjoy the portrayal of the different characters' relationships to AI and other new technologies. The general public fear of sentient AIs, and resulting legislation prohibiting them feels very accurate, and I'm very interested to read more about the people who fight for AI's rights to be more than unfeeling servants.

Punk Rock Jesus tells the story of the J2 Project, a reality TV show featuring a cloned Jesus Christ, and is packed with well realized characters and a spot on portrayal of our world. Murphy has created something uniquely powerful and angst-ridden in the intertwined stories of Chris as he struggles against life in the spotlight and religious indoctrination, and of Thomas, his ex-IRA bodyguard trying to protect the second coming and atone for his sins.

Still not really sure about this story. I'm struggling to follow what is going on. Maybe if I had more of a clue about the Odyssey it would fill in the gaps. I also didn't notice til reading the letters section that Fraction's been writing it in meter-ish, and I had not appreciated that at all. Maybe if I approach it more like visual poetry I will enjoy it more than trying to follow a story line the way I'm used to. Ward creates absolutely stunning images and his use of color is unfailingly inspirational.

Sex Criminals Volume 2 delivers on all the humor and imagination I expected after the first volume, but with a grittier look into our screwed up protagonists and their screwed up decisions. The honeymoon period has ended for our heroes and they must face the fallout from their actions, their new enemies, and their own internal turmoil. Sex Criminals is the total package, outrageously creative and playful, while also serious and moving. I also love how Fraction/Zdarsky give page time to stuff of real life importance. In volume one it was the surprising confrontation of the struggle of a young woman to get real sex education and not be vilified for it, and in volume two they call out the male propensity to send unsolicited pictures of their genitalia to young women they've never met, as well as providing a legit discussion of pros and cons of different birth control options. Just casually changing the world into a more thoughtful place.

I fell in love with this story fast and hard. The premise is intriguing - every ninety years twelve Gods live on earth as young people for two years and then die, leaving a legacy and a hope for humanity - and the story explodes to life with lots of thrilling mysteries and instantly impactful characters. AND THE ART IS COMPLETELY FLAWLESS.

First I must say, the art is completely stunning. I feel I ought to go back through this issue and spend like an hour meditating on each page. I am not sold on the story yet. I've never had much of a brain for Greek epics, I get lost by the details and don't click with the characters. I felt the same lost feeling when it came to this retelling, but I want to give it a longer chance to grab me. The premise is very cool and I love the space opera feel of it, so we'll see.

So hooked, can't wait to read more. I really enjoyed the way the story was widened to focus on new characters with different experiences and POVs in this totally intriguing setting.
