I've had this book on my shelf for a while and I just never picked it up. With quarantine happening and all of the crazy going on in the world I decided that today was going to be the day that I finally read it. I'm so glad it did! It provided me with such a nice, wholesome, warm, and fuzzy change of pace. Most important, it really made me smile and I laughed out loud at all of the clever puns. Pumpkinheads is a super quick read and if you have an hour to spare, use it to read this book. You'll feel better.
Though it took me forever to read (because of work and school), I finally finished it last night. It was so easy to pick up every now and again and get immersed in the world right away! The characters are so well developed and I really enjoy the writing style. I plowed through Sythe in a metter of days and if I didn't have to deal with external factors, I probably would have gone through Thunderhead just as fast. The major cliffhanger at the end of this book is going to kill me until I can get my hands on the third one! My only complaint is that the beginning was a slow burn that lasted a little bit too long, but overall the plot was exciting and engaging.
This book was defintely a slow burn, but it was written beautifully well and brought to the table a lot of real and raw emotion. The timeline of the story was sometimes difficult to discern because there were many flashbacks and jumps forward, but I think that though it could be confusing to the reader, it depicts how life in trauma feels. I like how every "now" chapter had a "then" chapter to express the reasons for everything and all the consequences. Though I overall enjoyed the book(again, it had a good plot and I really loved the characters), it was just personally a bit slow for me.
