This is another case of my reading a book weirder than I had accounted for, but I won’t hold that against it. I really enjoyed the shapeshifter mythology here, but the plot was too slow-moving and the author’s fascination with urine is more appropriate in a dungeon than these pages.

I kept waiting for something to happen. Instead, it’s just a walkthrough of everything bad about being Caribbean.

I never seem to know that a book is hella strange until I’m in too deep. This book is maybe one of the strongest examples of that for me. I liked it though, it’s simply beautiful. It gets confusing at times, and starts out slow. I’m glad that there wasn’t too much world building all condensed at the beginning, but instead it was incorporated gradually. The relationship between Blue and Red, the poetic language used by the authors and the details of this beautiful world slowly grow until suddenly the passion of it all is almost too strong.

I think morality in this book is even less clear than its meant to be, and the plot felt a bit rushed. It’s a pleasant read and the author definitely managed to create a beautiful world with dynamic characters.

The best part of this book is when all the tiresome characters and their respective nonsensical trains of thought disappear, and Woolf’s near unreadable writing becomes slightly more intelligible.
