A fun book to read! I remember shelving this when I worked at Groesbeck back in 2010 and just now finally got around to reading it!
It definitely feels a little Pratchett-esque with its silliness on the surface but astute observances of human nature hidden under layers of humor and behind non-human characters.
A great book for those who love literature, enjoy fantasy (but nothing too deep, almost fairy-tale like) and a good character-evolving, adventurous tale!

4.5 stars!
I know some of the reviews say that it gets a little drawn out, but honestly, a lot of books do that. I thought this book did a good job with the pacing and continued to be scary right up to the end!
And speaking of the end, I really appreciate the lengths the author went through to keep his Native characters and folklore inoffensive and away from stereotypes. There's a whole blurb about it at the end of the book. I'm not Native myself, and I appreciate how this white, male author explains how he dealt with trying to write these characters. So, +500 points for him!
I wish our library would get more published r/nosleep or creepypasta books! There is some fabulous horror being written online that I wish was more accessible and on library shelves for everyone!

Spoiler
I kept telling myself "Oh well, this is obviously a Wendigo" but you know what? The scariness remained unnamed. Not evil, not good, and explained in a way that encompasses Indigenous People's beliefs and stories.I wish our library would get more published r/nosleep or creepypasta books! Ok, that ended up being pretty cute. It is nice to see a manga with an ace character and that doesn't make (too much) of a mockery of aces. I can't fault it for some of its cringe moments that are very much par for the course in manga (Yuriko constantly invoking the "BL Gods" and being an avid otaku), but by the end I really enjoyed the characters!
Freakin' adorable. Squeenix is working hard to make you cry if you are a cat-person! This went straight onto the "Staff picks" display as soon as I checked it back in.
This manga is for all ages and especially for anyone who loves their pet cat!
