EEEUUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHH. I haven't been a teen in a long time but I absolutely HATE when an author uses mis-communication/putting-words-in-their-mouth/not communicating as a plot device for drama that is a major part of the story. NO. Also, I cringed way too much during this book. The dialogue was off just enough that it seemed unrealistic.

First off, kudos to the author for having a note before the book starts stating that there is rape in this book as a trigger warning. So, if that does not deter you, and you are looking for a good, quick read about sweet, sweet revenge using Romani dark magic, then I recommend this book to you! Not a scary read, but definitely a grotesque read. I should not have been reading this while on desk since I got woozy when reading about the removal of an eyeball. Enjoy!

Yeah! That's what I'm talkin' about! Everything I wanted in a ghost-type horror novel. :)

I asked my coworkers for horror book suggestions and I was recommended "Cows". Now we are thinking of creating a "Cows Reading Challenge" where you get a pin that says "I survived the Cows Reading Challenge!"
You too can partake in the Cows Challenge if you wish to see if you can get through this book full of the most nasty, gory, disgusting, depraved descriptions without throwing up, fainting, or really weird nightmares!

Definitely reads like the r/nosleep and creepypasta posts it was originally written as, but that doesn't detract much from the overall creep-factor. You'll be able to piece the story together as the narrator slowly reveals his past in non sequential chunks and chapters.

As I described it to my husband: "Remember that episode of X-Files, 'Irresistible' with Donnie Pfaster? He was just a regular guy, nothing paranormal about him, but he was probably one of the scariest people on that entire show. That's this book."

Alright, I'm giving this one a so-so review. It wasn't bad, but I feel this comic series is being made to placate all the new Loki fangirls out there. Sure, I love me some Loki, but do you really need to make a whole new plot point where he has died and been reborn to do good and cancel out all the bad his old self has done? All the while, there is definite fanservice for those gushing girls, but I just didn't get the good Loki the Trickster feel from him. In fact, you know what originally made me interested in Norse mythology and fall in love with Loki? The book Pyramid Power by Eric Flint. SO MUCH FUN!

I read this book while on my horror book binge as it was rated one of the top horror books of the 21st century here on GR. While it wasn't the scariest book I've read it definitely has been one of the best. Better than Heart Shaped Box. The characters were just all top notch, the story is quite an adventure, and its just so HEARTFELT! Seriously! I know he hates being compared to his Dad but this book had more of a King-ish feel to it since it was very much outside the realm of reality and possibility, but that's what made it feel like such an original story in which his characters flourished!

I gave it the ol' 100 page try but it suffered from Old White Man Syndrome (OWMS) and it was more sexist and racist than scary. Sure, sure, the author was writing that way because the characters are centuries-old mind vampires. Whatever. But I certainly wasn't scared or having fun reading about women being taken advantage of sexually by POS mind vampires.

So this book, which is the entire collection of short stories set in Blackstone in one book, made me think of a 90's horror/comedy show (like Tales from the Crypt without the Cryptkeeper). You know, low budget for the effects, each story has a moral at the end or a separate theme but they're all tied together in some way. Yeah, something like that. It was all very 90s. But not bad. It was an enjoyable series of short stories that features a cursed item in each one, then it all comes together in the end when you find out who the mysterious shadowed figure is delivering these items to the townsfolk. Easy read, nothing too deep, and your classic 90s horror. Enjoy!

Looking for a gruesome book? A good ol' picked-off-one-by-one horror? Then let me introduce you to this book, where the deaths and descriptions are beyond gross, the adults are quick to die and the children are left to fend for themselves against a terrifying and unseen enemy.

Do not read if children hurting themselves or each other is a trigger (think Lord of the Flies, but even worse). Also, I had to skip a scene of intense animal abuse (don't hurt cats, man) otherwise my rating would be MUCH lower and I would have stopped reading the book. Luckily it was just one part and I could easily skip over it and get back to the horrible deaths of humans. Let's face it, we watch shows and read books with humans doing the worst things to each other, but by God if you so much as harm an animal you will be hated forevermore.
