Pirates, magic and an ancient setting with a modern writing style. I really enjoyed getting to know Amina and I appreciated how the author wove religion and magic into the story. I also enjoyed that the characters were all adults, with a little bit of a wonky knee thrown in. Also, the cat who couldn’t cat was hilarious. The twist at the end was fun and I’m looking forward to the rest of the trilogy. 

The main plot line of this book resolved too easily for me and the love interest sparked a bit fast and read a bit awkwardly. I liked the premise of this book and the plot line and world building were promising but I’m not sure I will read further in the series. 

Adorable urban fantasy starting a witch from the UK with strong themes of found family. An enjoyable and quick read. 

I enjoyed the writing style (I adored the use of parentheses in the text). I absolutely want to visit the Starless Sea. I also really enjoyed all the literary references. The story was told beautifully and woven together in a really interesting way.

I just finished! Slow read at first but the pace picked up in part two once the POVs crashed together. Interesting world building and magic system layered over a political pull between church and state. I enjoyed the Zosia and Maruto plot lines but I think Sullen was my favorite character. The campaign of misinformation was well used and I enjoyed the book overall.
