I started this book back in 2011-2012. I kept putting it down because I was not of the maturity to read and put aside my rightful anger. Many years later I didn’t fair much better but I understood the need to finish. The work is powerful for 2019, but even greater when you consider the time period. He did this before civil rights took off nationally. Sadly. Not much as changed in the Deep South as evidenced by our current political climate and president. Very interesting read none the less and I’m better for having finally finished the book.
Outstanding. I appreciated that the author included many comments about her story about injustices/poor thinking about women’s independence, black people treated equally. I feel like she could have easily glossed over then but there was an active attempt to show how this was unacceptable.
I also enjoyed the many layers to the story and the secondary characters. I found myself crying at the ending, which is rare for me.

I started this as physical book, I couldn’t connect with writing so switched to audio. I originally abandoned it but had a long road trip and decided to try again, I’m thankful I did. Took a while to get into but the story was complex and deep and gave me a lot to think on legacy and loneliness
Great insight into the actors and people who made Hamilton the success it has become. I really enjoyed the narration by Mariska Hargitay
I read it because I love Demetria, but I wasn’t that impressed.
I made the mistake of reading the reviews for this book after I was 60% of the way through and it soured the book and how I viewed it. I enjoyed the writing, although i felt it dragged in the middle and then within the last 50 pages through in a bunch of intense scenes to make up for the middle. Overall I agree with the sentiment that the author should not have written this and let a more authentic voice tell the story, because it definitely needs to be told.
