Ever find yourself in the mood for a book that doesn’t require a full commitment to a complex, multi-layered fantasy world but still offers enough magic, intrigue, and swoon-worthy moments to keep you hooked? Cursed by Gina LaManna delivers exactly that: a fun, easy read that lets you escape reality for a few hours without demanding too much brain power.

This book is the literary equivalent of "just one more episode.” I sat down intending to read a few chapters and suddenly realized I was 42% through in just one sitting. It flies by with just the right balance of tension, action, and romance to keep the pages turning. The side characters were also great. They added a lot of personality, humour, and just the right amount of chaos to make the world feel alive. I would happily read an entire book about the supporting cast, which is great for me because I learned Gina LaManna has more works in this universe out to catch up on while I await the sequel in this series.

If you’ve read enough fantasy books, you’ll recognize some familiar tropes. It’s all been done before, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but don’t go in expecting a groundbreaking twist on the genre. While I loved that the book was fast-paced as that was exactly what I was looking for, there were moments where I wished it would slow down just a little. Some plot points felt glossed over, and I wanted more time to sink into the world-building and character development. A little extra depth would have made this story even better.
