i mostly liked this :) the storyline did feel too fast-paced/rushed for the story to properly breathe, though.
and as someone from the South (not from Mississippi, but i used to live just across the mississippi border and have been there several times) the environment just did not feel like the south. i expected the setting to pop a lot more than it did, but it felt like it could’ve been set almost anywhere else in america and the story wouldn’t have been affected much. made me sad cause i rarely see ya books set in or around places i’ve lived (especially books with queer, disabled, or bipoc characters), and was so excited for this. overall it was definitely a good story though, would absolutely recommend. the setting just kept taking me personally out of the story, but i’m in a pretty niche audience for this book so that probably won’t bother most people!!
