reminded me of that one my little pony friendship is magic episode where they go to the town where everyones cutie marks got taken away so theyd be equal
i finished this a few hours ago and didn’t review it until now, so my memories of what i disliked about it aren’t quite as clear. but i do remember that Hiro and his yadokari kept ringing alarm bells in my mind of shitty DID stereotypes in media and it was just making me uncomfortable. + characters who never reacted reasonably to a situation, an insane deus ex machina (printing everyone dead out from the food machine was one of the most wildest plot attempts ive ever read, the food printer only took a basic mindmap so how could it print a whole clone????), and just so many other things. i was much more interested in the events of their backstories than in the actual mystery plot.
would’ve preferred a slower pace, but other than that liked it a lot :)
i thought this was good, but it just… existed. the art is beautiful but i couldn’t find anything unique about this story, again: it just exists. i’m probably barely going to remember it a few days from now. ending was meh, it just suddenly stopped for seemingly no reason.

i adored the vast majority of this book except for the ending im ready to throw hands at that ending
what i hoped for was for jude to stand up for themself and become human so they could stay with huy, and it really seemed like that was where the story was headed. i was wildly disappointed when both them and huy forgot each other and jude stayed a cupid anyway. also WHY DID THEY BOTH FORGET EACH OTHER? it just doesn’t make sense, if jude didn’t forget leo then why did they forget huy? i def wish the cupid side of things had been more fleshed out, cause in this it just felt paper-thin and just there to make a unique romcom.
aside from theending and iffyness on how Cupid-ness works , i adored this wholeheartedly and want to read more from mason deaver in the future !!
aside from the
ngl im massively surprised by how much i loved this!! this is the first haunted house story ive ever given five stars. the dysfunctional family felt very accurate (and just hit home honestly), the setting was great, and i loved anna as a main character :D reminded me a little bit of the vibe of A House With Good Bones by T Kingfisher (one of the only other haunted house stories ive loved)
