was going to do the one-essay-each-day thing with this, but im having a nice evening all to myself so decided to finish it and it’s amazing
genuinely every essay is good!!!

sadly, dnf’ing this at 58% because it’s just very much not working for me.
this book is a Dracula retelling focusing on Lucy Westenra, and what happens to her after becoming a vampire (and shes sapphic)
i was really loving this at the beginning! White does an amazing job at creating atmosphere (especially in the sections that were of Lucy’s diary). 
unfortunately, this is also possibly the slowest-paced book i have ever read, and in my opinion does not need 400 pages. at ~35 percent i was like “really? ive only gotten this far?” and at 55% i was just exhausted of this story. at the beginning it’s wonderful, but the slow pace wears out its welcome very quickly.
again, thank you to Del Rey and Netgalley! i really liked most of this book, but the pacing was incredibly slow to the point of being depressing and this story does not need 400 pages.

cool book about how horrific the tech industry is and a family fighting against it! i’d hoped for a more dramatic ending but oh well
would give a more detailed review but it is quite late at night in my time zone. good night

this was so cool !!!! already have the sequel checked out from the library and sitting in my bedroom im so excited to start it tomorrow

between reading The Maid and the Crocodile and now Raybearer,,,, holy shit i love how jordan ifueko writes relationships and dynamics between people. Tarisai and The Lady absolutely broke my heart

this was incredible, nothing like a good middle grade fantasy graphic novel to make me cry like a baby
not a 5 star cause i do think that some of the panel progression paired with lack of dialogue made the storyline slightly confusing in places, but i still really really loved this

*adds this to the extensive list of amazing graphic novels ive read this year* why the fuck (lovingly) am i looking at count camembert and thinking “ah yes, gender goals” 

eh not the best but a wild ride that i mostly enjoyed
i do wish that this had engaged with the idea of “should there even be a monarchy?”, seeing as how james is so reluctant to be king and people seem to constantly be protesting the monarchy in this book it felt like a really missed opportunity to have a king at least acknowledge “hey, maybe a monarchy shouldn’t exist”
instead this mostly just insulted the monarchy protestors which from the perspective of james being kinda a bratty teen i get but STILL the idea could have been engaged with !! wouldve added a lot to this book

loved this, which makes sense since i adored hobie in into the spider-verse
i think this could be a really cool intro to punk for someone who doesn’t know much about it. is the plot basic? kinda yeah. is it fun? absolutely (also as someone who is very unwell over daredevil as a character i loved the spin they put on the character in this. AND CAPTAIN ANARCHY YEAHHHH)
as someone who was a massive marvel fan for a long time, i wish the energy of this was what they came at their other stuff with. you can just tell the artists and writers had a blast making this
also i really like that the women characters aren’t objectified in this, that has turned me off of so many comics and it was really nice to not see that at all here. they’re treated like actual characters!!! it’s not difficult to not objectify women in a story!!!
