not liking this, checked reviews and yeah this is not something i will enjoy
dnf at 72 percent cause i cant fucking take this book anymore
these two idiot boys calling each other duchess and lonely hearts :/ im sorry to use the word cringe but that is one of the most cringey things i have ever read in my life like bro ik at 16 we all kinda think we’re so cool and mysterious and edgy but them repeatedly calling each other those nicknames is just too far for me
alsoHOW DOES A SECRET SOCIETY JUST REPEATEDLY GET AWAY WITH KIDNAPPING CHILDREN OF HIGH UP GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS? LIKE IM SORRY BUT YOURE ASKING ME TO NOT JUST SUSPEND MY DISBELIEF BUT PROCEED TO SEND MY DISBELIEF TO THE MOON TO BE ABLE TO GET OVER THAT ONE

Everything to Play For: An Insider's Guide to How Video Games are Changing Our World

lovingly this is really boring :/ and i like video games and find them fascinating, but this just is very dry and not keeping me interested
anytime i see a mystery and think “oh, this looks cute!” i need someone to walk up and remind me that 99 percent of the time if i read a mystery or thriller i fucking hate it. least favorite genre why do i keep trying with it
the constant usage of the 2nd person in every single pov is throwing me off so badly and i dont like it. the premise is so up my alley so this is very sad :/ (+ multi-pov stories are hit-or-miss for me and this one with SEVEN POVS is most definitely a miss)
i tried so hard not to dnf this, but i just cant.
i found with this book that even with me only getting to 30 percent, that there is a lot of stuff that could’ve been cut to make the story feel tighter and more compact. including, sadly, Sinne and Riva’s POVs. Keyne was easily the most grounded and fleshed-out main character (although, i can concede that since he and i are both transmasculine maybe i was just drawn to him more because of that). Sinne and Riva felt very similar and from what i can tell are going to get a love-triangle plotline with some prince, and that’s just not something im interested in.
along with this, the line “the only evil i see here is intolerance” feels,,, ridiculous. it feels like a parody.
i do want to try another book by this author, Song of The Huntress, but Sistersong sadly just is not doing it for me

im finding this book to be a lot more academic than i expected, and the essays so far are hit-or-miss. something i value in nonfiction books is if its approachable for someone who may not know the topic inside and out already, and this is really not
thank you to Netgalley and Levine Querido for this ARC!
it makes me so sad to have to DNF this, but i think it just isn’t for me (at least not right now). it leans much more into mystery than what it seemed (and im not a mystery fan, so this is not good). along with this, the writing style is just not flowing for me. i want to try it again once the audiobook releases, but for now i just have to leave this one behind.

sorry not sorry. litfic is consistently so fucking boring i commend anyone who likes it. youre stronger than me
realistically i should like this, ive loved one of this author’s books before and ive been super into fantasy and romance (especially witches) lately — but this feels like such a slog for my poor little eyeballs. im going to put a hold on the audiobook and try it again that way !!
