Wow! How much i hated this book. 
If you're okay with abuse (both physical and verbal), major age gaps (18 vs 800), a man constantly describing things he wants to do to her especially since she's a virgin, and father's selling their daughters then by all means read it.
If you're not a fan of gaslighting, glorifying abuse, miscommunication, and/or dubcon, then skip it.
(Read as a buddy read but all of us agreed we made a mistake, even the darkest of dark romance readers)

I love this series. A LOT. LitRPGs are my jam.
However. This one was super repetitive and not just stuff from last books - stuff we were told from someone else's point of view just a chapter or two ago, or even just a paragraph ago! (I know the tree is ink affinity, I was there when it was planted - and you've told me now four times!)
I did almost get upset because of the lightning storm and Julian's family - I paused the book three different times within that ten minutes and should have just kept listening because it all turned out fine and I was not actually upset about it at all.

i was so angry that we were going to have the death of this entire family explained in detail while Tree watched, but it ended up serving as a reminder to him to cultivate his humanity as well as Qi and he saved them

HOWEVER. major cliffhanger. Like middle of a paragraph just STOPS.
So half a star docked. Still love everyone and Diana is a bamf.

I never knew where anything was going (actually I'm uncertain if I caught everywhere they've been but it was a fun ride.)
Everything was a delight, i giggled so often, and I enjoyed it immensely.
absolutely picking up book two immediately.

however the ending seemed slapped together. Suddenly he knew everything, was capable of blackmailing Mr Scientist Man, and chicklet who was sleeping with his brother is suddenly in love with him and will wait for him while he's busy playing video games in a cave. Eh?

Five of my favorite lines picked at random because there's so many fantastic sentences:

Theo forced himself onwards, like a swimmer battling upstream through a custard tsunami.

Eventually, though, the stairs ended in a door, which he discovered by walking into it.

She read me like a book, he told himself bitterly, after she’d gone away. And not just any book; one of the large-print editions they do for people with poor eyesight.

“It’s where a lot of rich people put money in a fund to buy hedges,” Theo said. “Then they sell the blackberries and make an absolute killing. Of course you know what a hedge fund is.”

“Have you been listening to a word I’ve said?”
Theo nodded. “Several,” he said. “But I skipped most of them, because they didn’t seem to be important. Well, thanks, got to go.”
