A Caller's Game is non-stop action, taxis exploding, bombs going off, shootings, stabbings, fires. The action comes so fast in the last half of the book that you don't have time to even question how it could be happening. The character development is what really had me loving this book. Barker can make you feel sorry for people even when they are doing or have done horrible things.
This was listed as folk/fairy tales and mythology. If I had known it was horror - especially children being cannibals I would never have downloaded the audio. And, the dialogue from a 4 year old at the beginning was totally unbelievable!

If you are expecting a fast paced thriller then you will probably be disappointed. There is a dead body at the very beginning of the book but it seems pretty insignificant at first. Instead Don’t Tell Me How to Die starts out as a beautiful story about family, heartbreak, love and loss. It is a coming of age story and you will cry but you will also laugh, especially at the interactions between Maggie and Lizzie. And, then you will start to understand that you have been tricked into imagining things as you think they should be. The way the story was told was brilliant and I loved every moment of it.

Whiteout was one of the scariest books I have read in a long time. It might seem slow and boring to begin with but believe me that is just so you have time to totally relax before the nonstop action. It was scary because of the unbelievable dangerous conditions of Antarctica in the wintertime and because of the mission impossible scenarios Rachel went through to try and survive. And it was scary because it was way too believable that all the scenarios presented in the book: a nuclear attack, what was happening because of climate change, and politicians and greedy oil barons disregarding what drilling for oil would do to the earth, could really happen in the not-too-distant future.

If Two are Dead is more of a police procedural than a thriller. We are slowly given clues to two events – the murder of two young Clear River girls years earlier and the possible hit and run committed by a newly arrived Clear River Deputy. And then, it is suddenly no longer a slow burn but a fast paced, page turner you won’t be able to stop reading.

Every Fall started out really hard to listen to. I didn’t like the descriptions of the toxic culture of the police department, I definitely didn’t like Jake after the story got going, I hated Amber, I didn’t like hearing Bree’s thoughts about hurting her children, I didn’t like how trapped she felt. But then….I wanted to know the story behind the ghost in their house and I kept thinking surely it can’t get worse. So, I kept listening and boy what a powerful story about PTSD, postpartum depression, and the lives of police officers and their families. Thanks to NetGalley for an advance listening copy.

Who knew being a civil lawyer and CPA could be so dangerous? Thomas Perry has once again written a thriller with an unlikely hero in the almost always nice guy, Charlie Warren. You will learn more than you ever wanted to know about how con men and bad guys in investment firms can steal from unsuspecting women, what legal maneuvers are necessary to recover stolen funds, and how a trauma in his past turned Charlie into the guy he now is – both the good and the bad.

I only gave it a 4 because of the ending - there was no ending - it just stopped in the middle of the story. I am now forced to listen to #3 immediately!
