I am so glad that I read this after reading ‘Not a Happy Family’ where that fell short for me ‘Someone We Know’ picked up all the pieces and gave me the Shari Lapena I’ve come to love.
I can admit the whole grumpy older male detective with the younger female detective thing is kinda meh for me. They didn’t get in the way of the story, so I could look past them.
If you are familiar with Lapena’s books then you know that you are introduced to a bunch of characters as the pages turn. Making it harder to figure out who the red herring is and who done it?! I definitely used my notion book nook to take notes on this one.
The book starts off with the crime. From the jump. Prologue. Crime. Done. All before we get to chapter one. We’re first introduced to Olivia, and for the most part the story leans heavier from her POV. We learn she has a son, Raleigh and we’re presented with another crime that starts you on the path of trying to figure out wtheck is going on.
I did find some of the characters to be annoying, foolish, and outright stupid at times. But not in a way that made me hate the book or make it hard to read. But in ways that had me saying “oh girl!!” or “Seriously” out loud. For example, Becky Harris. Girl, worry about what’s happening at your own house while you trying to go tattle on somebody else.
I can admit that it did take me a minute to get into it between reading/listening to other books. Along with not being too moved with my last read from the author. But I’m glad I saw it through! Overall this book was a great read for me.

I read this book because people said that it was ACOTR but straight to the point.
If this is true idk if I’m going to crack open ACOTR bc baby Nisha J. Tuli? oh she had me HOOKED with this one. (kidding I’m still going to read them) It’s been a LONG while since a read a book this fast as a full time student!!
We follow Lor and Lor just might be me new favourite character. She was annoying and naïve in the beginning or maybe it’s all part of her plan...
