Believe the hype! Gorgeous. I very much appreciate a story about a sexually-fluid sober person in which his sexuality and sobriety don’t overwhelm and dictate the entire book. Poets-turned-novelists are so talented.
Incredible to believe our friend Noam is somehow still alive after enduring nine decades of increasingly grave disappointment!
The whole Ghost Boy thing was a red herring but still, this was fun! I’m afraid I’ve opened Pandora’s box
wow wow wow she really did do the Peter Gabriel bait-and-switch
I would actually give this a 3.5. While the final 80 pages were good payoff, and the character building in the first half was expertly done, man, I just can’t hype myself up for a plot about auras with some seemingly ham-fisted Dark Tower universe crossovers. But, I did nail out the last couple hundred pages in one afternoon and enjoyed it, on that particular day. Mixed bag overall.
It’s not petty to count this when the entire short novel was sprung on you read aloud at a Halloween party! 4 stars for Irving’s luscious descriptions
Truly impossible to put a fair star rating on a 1,480 page graphic novel complete series. Had its ups and downs and when it was good, it was beautiful and poignant. But most of all, I read this for a dear friend’s recommendation and I’m just glad after 6 months I am finally FINISHED!
That was lots of fun!
More a 3.5: I love the premise and structure of this collection and maybe I was too sloppy skimming the cover and contents, but I was hoping for a more worldly view of the supernatural. It’s a fascinating tour of Green to Roman to Medieval Europe and beyond. Hoped to learn new things but then again, I felt lost on some of the religious allegories early on.
