I enjoyed this a lot more than I was expecting to (not a contemporary person) but as a fan of k-pop who is plus-sized...was curious. Now the dialogue from a lot of the characters is very stiff and much of it feels like fan fiction plot-wise, I think the message was still really important. I am lucky enough to not be on the receiving end of abuse from my parents about my size but I know so many are.
Rep: 2 main characters are bisexual (one man and one woman), lesbian, f/f romance

I'm confused by the overall low ratings. What am I missing?! I really liked this! The characters were messed with enough that this wasn't just a novelization of BBC but it was also still recognizable! Moriarty being a vampire was everything I didn't know I needed too!
this is the most weird awesome book I've read all year. It oozes American Gods energy and has so much damn rep.
Holy crap. This was AMAZING. The idea of someone being able to take your memories and bind them into a book so you dont have them anymore is fucking so cool but really messed with. ALSO I GOT A SURPRISE MALE/MALE ROMANCE IN FUCKING PRIDE MONTH!
Okay so I felt myself getting frustrated A LOT but sexism, a wanker of an uncle, double standards, deadbeat dads, people using religion as a scapegoat, and atrociously expensive post-secondary does that to a bitch (me. I am bitch).
I loved the characters. The ending was sweet. The setting was fun until you had to...interact with the staff. I have so much respect for people who grow up in that level of poverty and still manage to survive.

This was a calming book for me. Like there's plot and conflict and decent pacing but I found it relaxing for some reason. It's a mash-up of a few different genres but I think anyone just wanting to enjoy a historical fiction that just ISN'T THAT DEEP. The characters were enjoyable and I did keep guessing about the whole mystery for the entire book. I'll definitely be picking up the sequel.
We also need to normalize using maps as book covers.

Decent follow-up but not quite as good as Roar. I really do enjoy seeing Aurora's relationship with her mom getting more development and hope that continues in the sequel.
Yeah! I finished another series! The ending made me sad because like any good YA series conclusion...people die and I liked some of them. I truly just can't praise Traci Chee's writing. I find her voice just so relaxing while still drawing me in.
Okay I was very unsure of how I felt about the POV change. I did want to hear the voice of Carmen but I was kinda just angry and whatever at her by the end of the first book...BUT I think it really benefitted this series getting to see the world of the "elite" in the first book and then switching to see the rebel sides. I was super confused and curious to see where Carmen's relationship with Daniela but I am happy with it. I think book 1 was just a bit better and I connected more with Daniela's voice but this was definitely a solid follow up.
