Ugh I give been craving something different and this is exactly what I needed. Good characters to highlight how women act and have acted in these highly misogynistic societies. No cookie cutter ending. Characters build for survival. Hard topics. Loved the ending. Can't wait to see the film adaptation.
Omg this series is so underhyped and so damn good! Loved every part of this! I managed to literally go the whole book without thinking and giggling about the authors last name! That's how drawn in I was!
THERE'S DRAGONS!
This was just an insanely solid debut with a bunch of political chaos-shitstorm and I stan this romance.

So this is easily my favourite Marie Lu book. It reminds me a lot of the blend of history and fantasy from [b:The Light Between Worlds|34842042|The Light Between Worlds|Laura E. Weymouth|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1526501437l/34842042._SY75_.jpg|56074375] which is a huge favourite of mine. There was a lot of guessing and twists but the whole time you were like "but wait...it's a dream world...right?" I love that Lu didn't shy away from how sexism has in fact resulted in the loss of some amazing pieces of music, literature, inventions, etc simply because they weren't allowed to do that. I was especially in love with how sickness was used to control the characters.
well...the day has finally come...where I support a mid-series cover change.
~~~~Actual Review~~~~
oh my goodness this world is a mess. It makes me feel better about living in a time and continent where Americans just...decide a pandemic is over cause they don't wanna do that anymore and...we have murder hornets.
This is a super political maneuvering heavy book so if you're not a fan of that...I just don't think this series is really for you. It continues to tackle a lot of stuff that revolves around societal rules of the sexes and genders and that ICONIC toxic masculinity. I would like more. Thank ya!
There is no way the authors wrote a sci-fi book with characters named Red and Blue and were expecting me to not think of the Matrix so I just need to get something out of my system.
I have absolutely no clue how I am supposed to review this. It was amazing. Two people falling in love through letters to each other in different timelines. I felt thrown into the middle of things and a little bit lost but I mean that in a good way. The language of the letters--despite how short this book was--made it impossible to read and not feel the chemistry and passion between them.
Rep: F/F romance
