Previously, this was one of the few series that I really enjoyed and was always looking forward to the next installment.
While reading this one, the first few chapters seemed pretty good, however; once we got to the part where Parker is interviewing the ‘missing person’s’ neighbors and starts describing each of their ethnicities in detail with positively zero relation to the storyline, I started to get grossed out. Then, you read a little further and there was another word choice used to describe an African-American couple that just did not sit well with me.
Listen, I understand that the entire point of this series is that it’s told from the perspective of a Private Investigator in 1947 post-WW2 & that word would have commonly been used at that time, but, when it adds positively nothing to the story other than word count, WHY are we (and by we, I mean the very WHITE author) using that term to refer to folks? It’s just gross and tasteless in my honest opinion.
So, with that being said. Page 52 and this is a DNF for me and I will not be continuing in the series or giving this author anymore of my money.

I’m honestly having a hard time reviewing this because while I loved the idea and thought the writing was beautiful (especially some of the quotes regarding love and family) - I have positively no idea what the heck I read.
