This spooky, gothic tale is a perfect read too bring in the coming fall.
Sophronia is a widow that the town believes is surely a witch. Gabriel has come to town to be a minister. He is intrigued by the widow and doesn't care what the townspeople think of him getting to know her. Mysterious and creepy things start to happen to them both.
I loved the aspects of bringing Edgar Allen Poe into the story and the ties his works have to the mysteries that are happening.
Perfect fall read... Pick it up now!

This book was well written and I was so pumped for it all in the first half of the book. The second half just lagged for me.
Nate, aka CaptainMal, runs a billion dollar site on the dark net called Kyte. This is where people sell drugs and guns -illegal trades. FBI Agent Lisa is hot on his tail and wants to take him down. These are the two main characters and I didn't care for either of them.
I don't really have much to say about this book.

A tragic moment in history on Sept 11 brings the two characters, Lucy and Gabe, together. This starts a whirlwind romance that ends when Gabe leaves to follow his dream of photographing the world.
Lucy is left behind and eventually finds Darren, who she dates and marries and has kids with. But he thoughts are never far from Gabe and him the same of her.
About halfway through this book, I had an inkling of why this book was being written the way it was. I didn't know the full extent of it but I did kind of guess it. The end had me in tears. Beautiful story.

3.5 Stars
A new "school for the Gifted" is opening up in this Colorado town. This seemingly pits 4 long time friends and their families against each other vying for their kids to get a spot in this school. The parents and even the kids themselves compete against each other and let their morals go to do it. None of the characters are very likeable. I especially had a hard time with Beck and rolled my eyes everytime we came upon him. I wish we had more of Azra as she was the only charger I could really stand.
The book is a bit boring for most of it and didn't get a whole lot interesting until the end when a bit secret comes out because of a part of the admissions process.

I really liked Nikki and that's probably the one thing I really liked about the book. We don't find out why she chose her "other" career path or what tragedy happened in her childhood until nearer the end of the book. By day she is a used bookstore owner (I love how much she loved books and reading and the reason she did) but by night she follows cheats and liars. She is tough as nails, knows how to defend herself really well, has a smart head on her shoulders, and cares very deeply for her only family-her brother.
The big part of the story was a little confusing at times. There's a CEO from a tech company that hires her to follow a woman they say has stolen from the company and that's all I can say for sure.
All I know for sure is that anyone who gets in the way tend to not be alone for very long.

Thanks to BookishHq for a free copy of the book.
I had such high hopes for this but it didn't live you too this hopes for me.
Raymond Khoury does do a really good job at imagining a world where the Ottoman Empire exists today. We have a heavily tattooed man, Ayman, who can time travel and comes from 1683 to 2017 in Paris. He is found naked (because can clothes really time travel? Not here!) Kamal is an officer in the sultan's (yes we have a sultan leader) secret police that is sent to this mysterious stranger and question him.
This new world is bloody, where you can still be beheaded for anything from being a murderer to being a teacher
There is a TON of description in the beginning parts of the book and it gets a little confusing. 8 never got really interested work any of the characters or what happened to them.

Thanks to Dutton for sending me this free copy!
I was 12 years old when Friends premiered. So I wasn't a watcher or fan..... At first.
One night, I was browsing TV channels (as we did "back then") and came across the ending of the Season 4 finale. I stopped in time for Ross to do his famous flub "I, take thee, Rachel". Now I didn't know the characters yet, but from the reaction of the studio audience...I KNEW this was a significant moment. Thus, my obsession began!
This book was great for a Friends fan. There was a lot of stuff that I already knew but there were still some surprises in store for me. I appreciate the author's dedication in talking to the show runners in collaboration for this book.

Adrienne's time in the jewelry business was fraught with people that took advantage of her. She always seemed to trust the wrong people which resulted in loss of money and merchandise. Not only by the men that seemed to dominate the jewelry business when she was starting out, but even by some women. I felt that she would have been more careful in all her dealings if she had had some kind of business degree. It was interesting to see where her journey took her. She taught a lot in this book about the industry for people who obviously don't know about it and it was educational.

Gretchen is a creepy, creepy girl and even I was scared of her.
This story mostly focuses on Lucy and her mother, on the run for 13 years and 11 states. We don't know exactly why, until later, but we know that Lucy can't look strangers in the eye and she wears contacts to hide her real (strange colored) eyes.
They find in their 11th state, what they think, is the perfect place. Gretchen and her father Jerry live in the mountains. The town leaves them alone as rumors abound that the place is haunted. There are also small whispers about a long ago cult!
Lucy and Gretchen form a weird friendship. Gretchen is very into puzzles and even has a bone room. Lucy slowly begins to realize that something is very wrong with this girl and it comes to a very terrifying end! She also finds out the truth about her life.
