This is a beautiful story set in a not so beautiful world of apartheid. Robin, a white girl, loses her parents in the Soweto Uprising and Beauty, a black teacher, finds her activist daughter missing.
Beauty comes to watch and care over Robin. Put together through both of their losses, we see a bond form between the two that shows that the world isn't black and white but a place for us all.... To love, to lose, to just be.
Robin makes some big mistakes along the way but was so brave in her pursuit to make things right in the end.

cute story. I loved the sisters, but was so upset that the mom never told her big secret
4.25 Thanks for the win Goodreads!
This book starts in a weird, weird way. Beth hasn't seen her friend Flora or her husband, Lewis, in 12 years and on the way to drop her son off to a football match... Beth decides to go to the last known address of Flora. What she sees throws her....Flora with her two children, Thomas and Emily. But.... what's weird is, they haven't aged AT ALL!
Beth needs to know what is happening. What she's seeing can't be true! The more and more she digs, the more bizzare this mystery becomes. So many players and so many things being covered up.... How will she ever uncover the truth?
I felt the same way as Beth...I had to know what the hell was going on! I needed this mystery solved as much as her.
When everyone comes to light, you see just how deranged and twisted Flora's life has become and who's to blame.
Crazy good book that keeps you on your toes.

This novel takes a bit of getting used to the writing. The author is a poet and it really shows in the writing. I'm not well versed in poetry and tend to avoid it. Once I got the hang of the writing some, it seemed to go a little quicker.
This is a letter from a Vietnamese son, "Little Dog" to his mother. It deals with race, abuse, drugs and overdoses, abortion, and his first love with a white boy.
Even though I may not have understood all the story was trying to portray, I'm glad I had a chance to read it.

I was excited to get this to review. It goes to show that the harder you work at something, the more likely you are to succeed. Murray people don't win right out of the gate, it can take years and years of hard work and patience. If you think that your circumstances prevent you from acheiving your dreams.... Prove those circumstances wrong!
16 years later we get this sequel to P.S. I Love You.
We get to see Holly, seven years after the death of her husband Gerry. She has found a new guy, Gabriel, that she had been dating several years. She goes on a podcast of her sister's to talk about the letters Gerry arranged for his following his death.
She expects that to be done and then... done. What she gets is a group of terminally ill patients who have formed a P.S. I Love You club. They want Holly's help. To do for their families what Gerry did for her.
I love the way this story goes. I think Holly really grows as she helped this group. She really touched my heart with the way she helps Ginika and Jewel. Bring out the tissues.... You will shed some tears!

After Brienne is brutally attacked, she lives her life in fear. So much that she won't leave the house. She invites a tenant to live with her, a nice doctor named Niall.
One day she finds a key in the mail, telling her "welcome to your new home" and gets so disturbed by it that she ventures out to find what is going on. She discovers a girl that looks JUST like her. It seems this "other Brienne" has taken over her life.... To almost every last detail.
After this, it gets so crazy! Brienne doesn't know what or who to trust anymore... Is she really Brienne or someone else?
When you think the story is headed a certain direction, Minka turns the tables into something even more sinister and bizarre.
Held my attention very well and I loved the insane plot!
*Book sent to me by the author. All opinions are my own*

A group of girls at a private boarding school known to be a site of witch trials. There is an "advanced class" taught by one of the teachers. She tries to persuade the girls that hey clash isn't about rituals, just mythology. Violet, the newest member, doesn't know what she's getting into. She's manipulated by Robin-who has a fascination with trying to bring The Furies- ancient witches about to help do harm to guys who do the girls wrong.
The girls do unspeakable things and Violet never stands up for herself. I kept waiting for her to step up and do something, but she never did.
I was expecting more of a witchy vibe and witchy rituals in this book than I got.
Thanks to Jordan and St. Martin's Press for this early copy on Netgalley.

Another hit from Kerry!
Joy is on a road trip driving along Route 66 from California towards her fiancé in New York. In her pocket is a list- a bucket list of her deceased sister. Joy is taking the trip that Judy was going to-in her honor.... But holding onto a big secret.
Dylan is the son of a famous singer. He just wants to write songs for others to perform. He's headed to Chicago-playing in dive bars along the way. He's doing this to honor his father's last wishes. He doesn't want to but there's a secret he's holding onto.
They find themselves together. Taking side trips along the way. What happens is a great friendship and more.
The story tore my heart in two and then mended it in a very interesting twist. It made me cry out of sadness and then out of happiness.

Why would someone want to do what Austin does? Not talking about the biking....
This book was ok for me. It would go really slow, then pick up speed and then go slow again. Most of it was slow.
I don't blame Alexis for not picking up on her boyfriend's (of 6 months) nefarious activities.... He was very good at playing the good guy.
I learned a lot more about rats than I wanted to know through this.
