I’m not okay. This was a masterpiece. But now I need Madeline Miller to pay for my therapy.

I am enjoying this series, but it’s not quite 5 stars for me. I feel like it’s a few reasons - so far the male MCs have felt quite similar. There’s also a lot of telling, rather than showing. Their inner monologues are a bit repetitive too. I’m hoping that the male MCs start to feel different from each other as the books go on, but that’s what keeps them from being 5 stars for me so far.
Also lots of people say Cade is their favourite but honestly he just doesn’t really do it for me. He didn’t feel that different from Rhett for me personally. I’m absolutely going to continue the series though because I’m having a great time!!

I don’t really know how to review or rate this since I don’t usually read poetry so I can’t really come at this from a critical point of view. I can only review based on how it felt.
For that it gets 5 stars. I sat and stared at the wall for a good 15 minutes after finishing the last poem, because I couldn’t believe the depth of emotion I felt while reading. It was raw, it was heartbreaking, it was nostalgic. It felt like the author left it all on the page, his pain, his anger, his hope and his love for his family and community laid bare. I am going to go and buy a copy of this, and probably more poetry.
