I personally find sexual assault stories hard and some parts of this seemed longer than they needed to be
I have not read any other books by the author but I would try another

Romance and science concepts?! Sure! This was a quick listen of the audiobook
The structure of this (jumping back and forth between Monuments men) took a little getting used to. Reading this out loud, I am sure I mispronounced most names :) but I learned a lot about the efforts (I have not yet watched the movie)
Our library had books with 6 word reviews…. My six word review of *this* book is “French people dramatically naked so much”
This book was not my jam. I spent a lot of time rolling my eyes and only finished it out of sheer will

Assuming Lacey and Amber are about as old as I am, this was (unfortunately) eye opening - I am sad to say as I was listening to the audiobook I was thinking “no! In the 80s/90s?! In the Midwest?! No!” I might be the perfect example of the kind of person who needed to read this book.
I thought the book was well done - and well told. Thank you Lacey and Amber for sharing your stories!

The matter of fact-ness of the ghost story line took me a bit by surprise midway thru, and I don’t always like magical realism but I enjoyed this overall and liked how the stories intertwined
A nice PG (probably not even PG-13) rom-com for my Bridget Jones/When Harry Met Sally loving heart - with a few twists (and date appropriate to finish it today)
I would not want to be a 6th grader again for almost anything…
The title about changing gears sunk in hours after we finished the book, but I really think it is a great message (and am a little embarrassed it took me so long to put it together)… I think Merci’s resilient outlook that somethings will be a “harder gear” and to take a deep breath and ride is a good message for all to consider

Felt this was longer than it needed to be and not particularly funny. The descriptions of what it is like to be a woman in India were eye opening for me.
Listened to the audiobook version and it was touching to hear when she got choked up while reading. This was looooong, but she has lived thru and influenced some amazing things.
Her explanation of her abortion I think will stick with me - I know what life before Roe v Wade was like, but the way she described the hurdles she had to go thru even in CA was kind of eye opening (and heart breaking thinking of the women that didn’t have the privilege of living there, or having the money to afford a safe procedure)
