This is the ultimate comfort book!
Donlea is a lush environment, Esther a strong protagonist, and Cayden restores my faith in men.
The first kiss moment was so memorable and well done.
My favorite scene in this book is when Esther and Prince Dehaan are comparing themselves to items during an afternoon tea.
I highly recommend this book to romance newcomers and lifetime fans alike.

This fast paced debut was super unique and I loved it. It's been awhile since I've seen such an intense corruption arc. The best way I could think to summarize this experience is when you're playing DnD and a character immediately resorts to violence instead of talking things through, and things only get worse from there. Reading this made me feel sad, disgusted, and needing to know what would happen next. I loved the romance element because it makes sense that Emanuela would fall for someone so like herself. It was previously established that one of her former rivalries involved some feelings. Verene is motivated by the same things Emanuela is, is incredibly ambitious, and has suffered trauma under similar hands .
I'm very excited for the sequel and hope to see Ale make a name for himself. He truly deserves better.

A stellar sequel that was absolutely worth the wait. This book was truly cinematic. Each character arc concluded in a satisfying way. The discussions around trauma were super impactful.
Ran out of time on a library loan. I'll have to start this one one because the first chapter confused me a bit. I usually love any Queer space operas though, and the foul language is a plus.

Thank you Netgalley for a copy of this ARC.
Light From Uncommon Stars is an emotional, unique, character driven SFF with found family and strong themes of survival, motherhood, and sacrifice. Over the course of several months, the reader wonders if Shizuka will surrender Katrina’s soul, and if Shizuka and Lan will grow to love one another.
I knew I’d love this from the moment I saw that one of the main characters is known as The Queen of Hell. The food descriptions will make you hungry! I love how Katrina’s character trajectory is handled, especially her eventual sisterhood with Shirley. These characters felt so real. The neighborhood felt like it’s own character, due to the care given to explaining how the neighborhood has changed over the years, with restaurants, businesses, and trends. I found the conclusion to be immensely satisfying.
The e-reader format complimented the pacing, in that the pauses in chapters or shifts in scenes were easy to follow, and kept things moving quickly.
Ryka Aoki is definitely a writer to follow.

This book was fun and definitely scratches the itch for a good heist story. There were a few highly memorable, emotional action scenes that I adored. I love how this book managed to make disguise kits badass. This one wraps with a strong cliffhanger, so I hope the sequel has been confirmed.

This is the furthest I've gotten in a book written by this author. I love the inclusion of a character with multiple pronouns, the sister relationship, and fairy tale retellings in general, but I just have too many titles out from the library right now.
I love Yoon Ha Lee's work, but this might be too hard sci-fi for me right now alongside grad school.
