the first anne carson text that I did NOT like. I am tired of reading endless meditations on the impossibility of desire. these meditations keep us alive, keep us safe from the danger of annihilation that the journey from desire to love entails. keep us safe, and also allow us to think we are doing something dangerous just by thinking desire. it's all loopy and self-preservative. I don't want it. the real danger is that love is real; in getting there, the self will auto-destruct. I do not want to save myself from it-- because I can't.
BLOWN AWAY by this collection. Haven't read something this fierce - in the realm of poetry - in a long, long time.
The first two parts moved me deeply; exactly the story I needed to read.
