some of the sex is hot. I went to this book, though, looking for some serious father-son psychotorment, incestuous themes.. but this is mostly a romance with blurred lines. couldn’t attach to any of the characters, which is I am rating it low.
the characterization, the romance, the plot, all very superficial. don’t think I will read book 3.
A little too YA for me in terms of characterisation, dialogue and the plot. Couldn’t attach to any aspect of the proceedings.
Loved the writing. Delicious detail but not one extra word. Direct, no-nonsense, precise characterisation. Satisfying levels of tension and resolution. Want to read more of Saft!
The project of laying bare the ideas and material history that accumulates within astrological terms is ambitious and beautifully executed. We get a super universalist, multi historical look into the trails of capital and whiteness through planetary significations.
My problem with this book is that it reduces astrology to relations of power. No mention of uncanniness, direct contact with the soul, synchronicities, the ever-strange accuracy of divinatory techniques. It is true we don’t talk about violence enough. But this book overcorrects this tendency and ends up with an astrology that is entirely human, entirely cultural.
