Loved it! I need more!

4.5/5

Short and Sweet:

I love all the diversity and magic realism in this. Definitely recommended!
To Elaborate...

Finn knows that Roza was kidnapped. She didn't just run away like everyone in Bone Gap believes, even his brother, Sean, who loved her. He has to face doubt, endless circles of confusion, mystery, and first love in his journey to find her before it's too late.

If you're looking for a book with wonderful, holistic diversity, I can't recommend this one enough. From Roza, a Polish young woman, to Finn, who has a condition he isn't even aware of, to Petey, a girl who everyone wishes would just get a new hair cut or try new makeup so she wouldn't be so ugly, there are so many important perspectives in this book.

Even before the magic realism elements come in heavier later on in this story, this whole book reads like some form of magic. Bone Gap is a brilliantly created world that balances real life, small towns that aren't so charming, and just a stunning picture. Once I got about 30% into the book, I couldn't put it down.

I also really, really ship the romance in this. Petey (Priscilla) and Finn are such a unique and touching couple, full of fierce, swoony, and aching moments. Petey actually might be my favorite, even though it's hard to pick. I love her strength and her love for bees, even though I enjoy keeping a five feet radius between me and anything that flies with six legs (or crawls for that matter).

Some parts of the story were a little confusing, though it was probably intentionally. Everything is explained by the end, but I still had a few "Huh? What? What was that?" moments. I definitely recommend this one, though, for its amazing voice, top notch diversity, and incredible originality.
