Ok i see the vision 🧐
I loved the imagery and the mysteriousness of it all, but i wish it had been a bit more fleshed out. There wasn’t anything for me to hold on to, each time a character was vulnerable and i felt like i could relate to them the author cuts away to a different thing.

So magical and beautiful and dark and delicious. I had to translate it from Japanese so some of the political stuff is harder to follow like I’m confused about Okuda and if he’s dead or not and like sean vs. dr victoria etc like do they all work for Summont or are they separate agents?? And who’s mr big? The art is just incredible and amazing

I was so pleasantly surprised by this!! I was expecting like 80’s goop horror and instead i got a hybrid of Lord of the Flies , Russian Sleep Experiment , & Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke. All wrapped up in like a devastating painting of boyhood. I was so sad that Newt got infected and also that Ephraim went crazy bc of Shelley-thing. Rest in peace baby boys. i want a sequel! Reading this book is like watching the worm-fight scene from the movie Splice.

I loved this omg
I usually don't do well w YA or teen books but this felt grown and had so many moving parts.
It's very short, and is essentially a possession story but then has like eco-horror components, feminist critique of the church, the necessity of the Nahuatl language to be kept alive, and coming-of-age issues as well for a group of girls in the barrio.
I loved thatthe inhabitant was not necessarily evil or that any inhabitant has necessarily been evil but simply misunderstood by white male dominated spaces like the church who would of course see a woman acting out as evil or possessed. That made this story unique.
