Two for one SGJ stories! What a deal! Killer on the road is propulsive and intense and bloody and great. Somehow The Babysitter Lives is way more horrifying than I remember it being (listed to an audio exclusive version years ago) and left me feeling drained! 10/10, no notes. 

Dark academia with body horror. School for monsters, evil faculty, remaining students post-massacre trapped in the library. 

A queer woman is trapped in a craft store run by a mega church! If you’ve ever wondered how many different ways you can brutally maim or kill someone with craft supplies, this is the book for you. Such fantastic body horror, a menacing religious cult, and a strong badass queer lady. Hell yeah!

I love hearing stories of Marsha P Johnson. What an icon. 
The structure of this bio is a bit circular and repetitive, but the stories are so good and inspiring that I didn’t really mind. 

Eric LaRocca is one of the authors I jump to when people are looking for books that will hurt them in the best way. Each of their books has gotten increasingly more disturbing and unhinged, and I mean that with all of the love in my heart. We Are Always Tender with Our Dead is the first book in the Burnt Sparrow Trilogy, and what a banger of an entry!  Set in the deeply unsettling town of Burnt Sparrow, NH, a 17 year old kid is subjected to more and more unspeakable horrors following a Christmas Massacre by a family of faceless shooters. In LaRocca’s signature style, this book is transgressive, gory, and upsetting, while at the same time somehow tender and heartfelt and bittersweet. I don’t know how Eric does it, but I will continue reading absolutely everything they write, forever.

Sapphic vampires across time. Toxic ex, chaos, blood, sex, dancing, wooing, sacrifice, it’s great it’s great it’s great.

Told mostly from the POV of a sentient plant with a taste for…well everything: emotions and memories and materials and and and. 
This is a twisted love story set in a flower shop in Dublin and I loved it. 

It’s definitely got some Stephanie Meyerisms in there, and it’s probably 200 pages too long, but the story is cool. 

Parasite aliens taking over human forms and creating a better life, but some humans don’t want that. This is from the perspective of one of those parasites, who finds herself in the company of humans, and who never lets her original human host disappear. There’s chosen family and lots of conflict and lots of hesitation and lots of love.

As her brother and his classmates, and then her other peers start to change, Kyra realizes that SPORE isn't just a party drug, there's something much more sinister happening, and it may be up to her to stop it. 
This book is creeping with anxiety and trauma. The tension is planted right at the start, and just keeps growing. The horrors spread further and further, until they've wound their way around you and dragged you into the oily, shiny darkness. 
This book shines. Don't you want to shine?  🌿

Very sweet romcom with long-distance dating between a vet and a social media manager. She has a mom with dementia, he has narcissistic abusive parents. They have beautiful chemistry and make it work. Has a happy ending and no one has to give up anything that they love. Level 3 - fade to black.
