Interesting premise, executed decently

I love murder mystery books and I was sure this was going to be a good one. The book summary drew me in as did the prologue. But I do have to admit that the story was unbelievable at times. Her relationship with her daughter was as if they were acquaintances. Instead of trying to figure out why April had so much resentment towards her, Riley chose to not “argue with her.” And this happened multiple times. Maybe her capture 2 months prior had something to do with it but she just seemed not to care. One thing I’ll give is that she did open up a bit towards the end.

Given her capture, I wouldn’t see Riley as being reckless as she was. But instead, that’s exactly what she was. Rushing to get a “suspect” without backup knowing fully well the suspect was dangerous. Especially at the end. The suspect wasn’t holding anyone captive so waiting would not have been a problem. Yet she was impatient and got captured again.

I’ll give the next book a try but I do hope it gets better. Once Gone was not horrible but it certainly could have been better.
