This is my longest series to read as well as one of my favorites. The story is set in New York 2061, where Lieutenant Eve Dallas is called to the scene of a body that’s been left in a dumpster. While at the crime scene investigating, she’s called to another one a few blocks off. Now with two murders, and one of them spanning decades, Lieutenant Dallas will have to find out who killed these women and why. 

This was one of J.D. Robb’s most fast paced In Death books and I loved the way it was written. I liked the connection Eve had for both her victims and how that helped fuel her in the investigation. As always, her partner Detective Peabody aided her and I’ve enjoyed watching her grow as a cop underneath Eve’s tutelage. I was fascinated with how the investigation into the murders started to run in parallel lines and was excited to see the showdown with the guilty parties. 

Eve and Roarke’s relationship was fun as always to witness. How although they’d have minor spats, at the end of the day they still loved each other and came to an understanding. I was slightly disappointed we didn’t get to see more of the series’ loved characters but with how fast paced the book was it made sense. 

I wasn’t sure what I was getting into when I started reading Horrorstör. I haven’t seen much reviews about it but it seemed creepy enough for me to read it for #summerween. 

This is a story of Amy who works at Orsk in Ohio, a knockoff IKEA. She feels stuck in life, going through the motions of her job like a hamster in a hamster wheel. A chance at extra money finds her at the store after hours with a couple of coworkers. Something is going on at night; someone is vandalizing the store and they’re there to catch whoever it is. Slowly, things get weird and creepy as the night progresses. Think bodily fluids, ghosts, rodents. And soon it’s a fight to survive the night. 

I wasn’t a fan of the main character too much but the side characters and their antics made up for it. The book built up slowly which I didn’t mind. I loved how each chapter started as though this was a catalogue, with “furniture” that could be found in the store featured. Overall the ending as disturbing as it was ended up being my favorite. Will I read this again? Most likely during Halloween, just to creep myself out again.
